Your neighborhood, too
The interesting stuff starts before downtown.
A park on a former filtration site. A green space hidden inside a city block. A neighborhood story just beyond the door.
19 Channing sits in Stronghold, with Bloomingdale across North Capitol Street. Start close to home, then follow your curiosity.

Across North Capitol Street
Reservoir Park
A new public park with an older story underneath.
Reservoir Park opened in 2024 on the former McMillan Sand Filtration site. The 6.2-acre park and recreation center bring open space, walking paths and places to swim and exercise to the neighborhood.
Make it part of your stay
Walk the grounds, explore the art walk and historic fountain, or check out the fitness center. The park also has a large grass field, playground, spray parks and outdoor fitness equipment.
Planning a swim?
The aquatic center has lap lanes, a learn-to-swim area and zero entry. Pool hours differ from recreation-center hours. Check the current pool schedule and admission requirements before setting off; bring a government-issued photo ID.

Inside a Bloomingdale block
Crispus Attucks Park
The neighborhood's hidden green space.
A 1.06-acre pocket of flowers, trees and grass, tucked behind the houses rather than along a busy street. The park is privately owned and maintained by a community nonprofit, and welcomes the public under its posted rules.

Beyond the end of Channing Street
Glenwood Cemetery
Our neighbor was here before the neighborhood.
Glenwood is part of the story of Stronghold itself: its boundaries helped shape the neighborhood's streets, and its grounds hold stories that reach well beyond them.
One belongs to Constantino Brumidi, the artist whose Apotheosis of Washington fills the canopy of the U.S. Capitol Rotunda. His grave is pictured here, close to Channing Street.
Visit respectfully
This is an active cemetery. Use an authorized entrance, observe posted access hours, and give services and visitors their space. The end of Channing Street is a boundary, not a promise of public access.
